Job Description
Codes complex outpatient, SDS or observation encounters according to guidelines and conventions. Codes complex outpatient, SDS or observation encounters. Monitors quality of coding by reviewing and sharing information received from other Medical Center departments resulting in 98 accuracy rate. Is responsible for maintaining a current knowledge of regulatory and third party payer updates by reading and applying knowledge resulting in quality coding. Responsible for maintaining the unbilled cost amount according to benchmarks. Abstracts complex outpatient, SDS or observation encounters in order to provide a current and effective database for informational retrieval. Abstracts records to maintain established benchmarks. Monitors accuracy in abstracting through errors identified (internal and external) resulting in 95 accuracy rate. Communicates regularly with medical staff and provides ongoing documentation and coding feedback and education. Is responsible for reviewing and sharing information received by (internal and external) reviews. Monitor results/plans to achieve established benchmarks. Enters data into the billing system according to coding conventions, guidelines, and system requirements. Monitors accuracy through errors identified (internal and external) resulting in 98 accuracy rate. Is responsible for maintaining a current knowledge of regulatory and third party payer requirements by reading and applying knowledge gained. Enters data resulting in no continual backlogs. Actively assists with development of new services in accordance with Interdisciplinary Practice Committee. Identifies, researches and sets up new procedure codes. Develops policies/protocols for new services. Communicates new codes and processes to non:physician providers, nurses and ancillary staff involved with new service. Serves as charge capture liaison with clinical staff. Works collaboratively with all coders. Communicates identified issues to IT for resolution. Assists with software updates. Performs research, support and analysis of documentation, charge capture, fee setting and compliance. Assists with facility:wide revenue recognition. Assists with the ongoing development, maintenance and updating of departmental and ISJ:MHS policies and procedures. Performs research, support and analysis of charge capture, fee setting and compliance. Communicates results to appropriate individuals. Audits charge capture related to billing, coding and compliance issues. Develops an understanding of non:physician providers and other clinical practice and related revenue recognition and compliance issues. Basic Qualifications:
Experience : A minimum of two years coding experience required. A minimum of five years coding experience preferred. Education: Coursework in coding required or exam eligible. Credentialed in CCS (Certified Coding Specialist), CCA (Certified Coding Associate), CPC (Certified Professional Coder), CPC:H (Certified Professional Coder/ Hospital) or CCS:P (Certified Coding Specialist/Physician Based) or RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) or RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator) required. RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) or RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator) preferred.
License or Certification:
Licensure and Certification: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) OR Certified Coding Associate (CCA) OR Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) OR Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) credentials required.
